Following rock falls in the summer at Huntcliff, Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council have looked into this. The cliff was stable with no further falling rocks when they visited on Monday lunch time (1st August 2016) though the rock fall had left an overhang that would come down in due course. This was likely to affect the Cleveland Way footpath on the top of the cliff though there was currently no sign of the movement of the path.
The Coastal Protection engineer also visited. There are signs near the Ship Inn warning of the danger of rock falls and advising people to stay away from underneath the cliffs. This warning was also put out by the coastguards and the RNLI. There are few options to put out any additional signs or barriers as the beach is covered by the tide twice a day,
Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council will continue to monitor the situation and will take action where they are able.
Walkers are advised to take care at all times, both on the cliff path and on the beach.
